Markers for better living (tree)
Exhibited at Format Gallery, Adelaide, 2010.
Ficus Benjamina, jar, rainwater, cloth, ribbon. Giclee prints on german etching, 100 cm x 81.5 cm.
Inspired by Irish and Scottish clootie wells and other sites and shrines of pilgrimage. You dip the cloth in the water/spring/well; Tie it to the tree. As the cloth rots so does your ailment/argument/sadness.
The water is collected rainwater. Each strip of cloth was torn and tied to the tree, with wish and thought. The water remained under the trees. At the end of the exhibition I drank it.
